Peru: Merchandise exports increase in October
Merchandise exports climbed 6.0% on an annual basis in October (September: -2.4% year-on-year). The figure marked the most robust expansion since March 2023. Meanwhile, merchandise imports increased 1.0% in annual terms in October (September: -6.4% yoy), marking the strongest result since December 2022.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 1.0 billion surplus in October (September 2023: USD 1.2 billion surplus; October 2022: USD 0.7 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed up, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 15.4 billion surplus in October, compared to the USD 15.1 billion surplus in September.
