Peru: Merchandise exports increase at a slower rate in June
Merchandise exports soared 12.3% in annual terms in June (May: +23.0% year-on-year). This was wholly due to higher export prices, as export volumes actually fell year on year. Meanwhile, merchandise imports fell 5.8% in annual terms in June (May: +2.8% yoy), marking the weakest result since December 2023.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 2.5 billion surplus in June (May 2024: USD 2.0 billion surplus; June 2023: USD 1.5 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend improved, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 18.7 billion surplus in June, compared to the USD 17.8 billion surplus in May.
