Poland: Growth in industrial output strengthens notably in January
According to the Central Statistical Office (GUS), industrial production increased 8.6% in January from the same month last year, gaining considerable steam from December’s soft 2.7% expansion. Driving the result were increases in the manufacturing and the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sub-sectors. Particularly strong growth was also recorded in the manufacture of basic metals and of machinery and equipment. Mining and quarrying output, on the other hand, continued to contract.
Annual average growth in industrial output came in at 6.4% in January, ticking down from December’s multi-year high of 6.5%.
