Poland: Inflation rises further in April
A preliminary estimate released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) revealed that consumer prices jumped 1.1% over the previous month in April (March: +0.3% month-on-month). April’s reading was led by a jump in prices for fuels for personal transport equipment, as well as by higher prices for food and beverages, and for utilities. Core consumer prices in March—the latest month available—rose 0.4% from a month earlier (February: +0.2% month-on-month).
Inflation rose to an over one-year high of 2.2% in April from 1.7% in March, landing below the midpoint of the Central Bank’s target range of 2.5% plus or minus 1.0 percentage point. For its part, core inflation in March increased to 1.4% (February: 1.0%).
All told, annual average inflation was stable at March’s 1.6% in April.
