Romania: Growth records slowest expansion since Q2 2014
GDP growth moderated to 2.4% year-on-year in the first quarter from the 4.3% expansion tallied in the final quarter of 2019, according to a flash estimate released by the Statistical Institute on 15 May. Q1’s reading marked the worst reading since Q2 2014 and largely reflected the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and its associated containment measures. In seasonally-adjusted terms, economic growth waned markedly to 0.3% in Q1 from Q4’s 1.5% increase. Q1’s reading marked the slowest expansion since Q3 2016.
Comprehensive first-quarter national accounts will be released on 9 June.
