Romania: Economy rebounds in Q1
According to a preliminary estimate, the economy bounced back in the first quarter of this year, growing 0.5% on a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter basis (Q4: -0.6% qoq s.a.).
On an annual basis, the economy expanded 0.1% in Q1 (Q4 2023: +3.0% yoy).
Commenting on the outlook, analysts from EIU stated:
“Still-high energy prices and interest rates weigh on growth in Romania’s key export markets. Inflows of funds under the Next Generation EU programme are boosting public-sector investment as tightened monetary policy conditions keep private-sector credit growth and private investment subdued. We expect real GDP to grow by 3.1% in 2024.”
