Romania: Growth in industrial production accelerates in January
Industrial output expanded a strong 8.5% in annual terms in January, up from December’s already robust 7.9% growth rate. According to the Statistical Institute, the healthy reading came on the back of strong growth in the manufacturing and the mining and quarrying sectors, whereas steam and air conditioning, electricity and gas output contracted notably.
On a seasonally- and working-day adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production dropped 2.8% in January, contrasting December’s 3.8% jump. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production improved on December’s strong showing of 8.2%, ramping up to 8.4% in January—a multi-year high.
