Romania: Inflation falls to over one-year low in September
Inflation came in at 8.8% in September, which was down from August’s 9.4%. September’s reading marked the lowest inflation rate since February 2022. Looking at the details of the release, services prices rose at a quicker pace in September compared to the previous month, while price pressures for non-food goods eased.
Annual average inflation fell to 12.8% in September (August: 13.4%).
Lastly, consumer prices rose a seasonally adjusted 0.79% in September over the previous month, picking up from August’s 0.54% increase. September’s uptick marked the sharpest increase in prices since March.
Commenting on the release, Valentin Tataru, economist at ING, stated: “The disinflation process continues to look stickier than expected, be it for different reasons each month. This time, we notice that price pressures have marginally exceeded our estimates in pretty much all categories, with service prices posting the largest deviation.”
