Romania: Inflation hits fresh multi-year high in April
Consumer prices jumped 0.5% in April over the previous month, above March’s 0.3% rise. Behind the increase were higher prices for non-food and food goods, as well as for services. The strongest increases were recorded for tobacco and cigarettes; and for electricity.
Inflation came in at a fresh multi-year high of 5.2% in April, up from 5.0% in March. As a result, inflation moved further above the Central Bank’s target range of 1.5%–3.5%. Consequently, annual average inflation rose from 2.5% in March to 2.9% in March, the highest level since March 2014.
