Romania: Inflation slides in February
Inflation eased to 7.2% in February, following January’s 7.4%. The softer rise was primarily driven by a more moderate rise in prices for food.
In addition, the trend pointed down, with annual average inflation coming in at 9.2% in February (January: 9.9%).
Finally, consumer prices rose a seasonally adjusted 0.81% in February over the previous month, a smaller increase than the 1.10% increase logged in January.
Commenting on the outlook, ING’s Stefan Posea stated:
“An unexpectedly strong goods demand early in the year, coupled with still sticky and relatively spread-out services inflation, both at a time when wage growth remains elevated, constitute the key upside risks for inflation ahead.”
