Singapore: Inflation rises in December
Consumer prices rose 0.3% month-on-month in December, matching November’s figure. The print reflected more expensive food; transportation; and communication prices, which largely offset cheaper clothing and footwear.
Inflation, meanwhile, rose to 0.8% in December from 0.6% in November. As a consequent, inflation averaged 0.6% in the year as a whole, which is slightly up from 2018’s 0.4% reading. Furthermore, the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s core inflation measure, which excludes accommodation and private road transport costs, edged up to 0.7% in December from 0.6% in the prior month.
