Slovakia: Economic sentiment deteriorates to a five-month low in May
Economic sentiment fell to 95.6 in May from April’s 96.5. May’s result marked the worst performance since December 2023. As a result, the index remained below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected weaker confidence in the retail sector. Moreover, sentiment in the services sector turned pessimistic. That said, sentiment in the industrial and construction sectors strengthened, and consumer sentiment improved in May.
Considering indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations deteriorated, while the economic uncertainty index fell in May.
