Slovakia: Inflation softens in July
Consumer prices fell 0.1% month-on-month in July, reversing June’s 0.1% increase and the first drop in prices in over a year. According to data released by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (SOSR), lower prices were recorded for food and non-alcoholic beverages, clothing and footwear, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Price decreases were, however, partly offset by higher prices for recreation and culture, and hotels, cafes and restaurants. Meanwhile, inflation moderated to 2.6% in July from 2.8% in June.
The harmonized index of consumer prices dipped 0.2% month-on-month in July, contrasting the 0.1% rise registered in June. Harmonized inflation eased from 2.9% in June to 2.6% in July. Annual average harmonized inflation, however, inched up to a nearly five-year high of 2.3% in July from 2.2% in June
