Slovakia: Inflation increases in August
Consumer prices grew 0.2% month-on-month in August, contrasting July’s 0.1% dip—which had represented the first drop in prices in over a year. According to data released by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (SOSR), higher prices were recorded for communications, transport, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Price increases were, however, partly offset by lower prices for clothing and footwear, and recreation and culture. Meanwhile, inflation accelerated to 2.8% in August from 2.6% in July.
The harmonized index of consumer prices rose 0.2% month-on-month in August, reversing the 0.2% drop registered in July. Harmonized inflation increased from 2.6% in July to 2.9% in August. Annual average harmonized inflation, consequently, inched up to a five-year high of 2.4% in August from 2.3% in July.
