South Africa: Inflation increases in September
Consumer prices increased 0.25% from the previous month in September, slowing down from August’s 0.41% rise. September’s result marked the weakest reading since June. Looking at the details of the release, the slowdown was largely due to prices for transport increasing at a more moderate pace in September.
Inflation increased to a four-month high of 5.0% in September, above August’s 4.9%. Consequently, the trend edged up, with annual average inflation coming in at 4.0% in September (August: 3.8%). Finally, core inflation ticked up to 3.2% in September, from August’s 3.1%.
