Spain: Economic sentiment records worst reading since December 2022 in September
Economic sentiment fell to 99.0 in September from August’s 102.2. September’s result marked the worst reading since December 2022. Consequently, the index dipped below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected weaker sentiment in the industrial sector and stronger sentiment in the construction sector. In the meantime, confidence in the services sector waned in September, whereas sentiment in the retail sector cooled in the surveyed month. Lastly, consumer confidence softened in September.
Considering indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations were healthier, while the economic uncertainty index increased in September.
