Spain: Housing permits surge in November 2020
The Spanish Board of Architects approved 9,014 new construction permits in November 2020, according to data published by the Ministry of Public Works. The figure was well above the 6,896 permits granted in November 2019 and the 7,014 permits granted in October. On an annual basis, permits soared 30.7%, rebounding robustly from October’s 24.9% plunge and marking the strongest increase in nearly two years.
Meanwhile, the moving three-month sum of permits totaled 24,516 in November, which represented a marginal 0.1% slip from the same period in 2019 and followed the 8.5% decline recorded in October. The current number of permits represents a mere fraction of the 268,266 permits granted during the July–September 2006 peak amid a booming housing market in the leadup to the global financial crisis.
