Spain: Harmonized inflation rises in January
Harmonized inflation rose to 3.5% in January from 3.3% in December. January’s acceleration was mainly due to a rebound in housing prices amid increased VAT charges on electricity bills and faster price increases for food and non-alcoholic beverages and alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
The trend declined, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 3.2% in January (December: 3.4%). Meanwhile, core inflation fell to 3.6% in January from 3.8% in December.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices fell 0.20% in January over the previous month, following the flat reading seen in December.
