Spain: Harmonized inflation comes in at highest level since April 2023 in May
Harmonized inflation rose to 3.8% in May, following April’s 3.4%. May’s result was the highest inflation rate since April 2023. The stronger rise was largely due to stronger price pressures for housing and transportation. That said, price for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose at a slower pace.
The trend was unchanged, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at April’s 3.0% in May. Meanwhile, consumer price inflation rose to 3.6% in May from the previous month’s 3.3%.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.23% in May over the previous month, moderating from April’s 0.60% increase. May’s result marked the weakest reading since January.
