Spain: Retail sales expand at quickest pace since May 2021 in March
Retail sales increased 9.7% in year-on-year terms in March, which was above February’s 3.6% increase. The print marked the best reading since May 2021. The upturn was primarily driven by upturns in large chain stores and single retail stores sales.
On a monthly basis, retail sales grew 0.5% in seasonally adjusted terms in March, rebounding from February’s 0.2% fall. Meanwhile, annual average retail sales growth rose to 2.4% in March (February: +1.2%). This signals an improving trend in the retail trade sector.
