Spain: Retail sales growth gains steam in May
Retail sales increased 6.6% year on year in May (April: +5.1% yoy). The figure was largely due to faster growth in large chain stores sales. In addition, single retail stores sales picked up pace.
On a seasonally and calendar adjusted monthly basis, retail sales rose at a more moderate pace of 0.3% in May (April: +0.9% mom). Meanwhile, annual average retail sales growth rose to 2.9% in May (April: +2.5%), signaling an improving trend in the retail trade sector.
