Spain: Retail sales rebound in June
Retail sales rose 0.6% in year-on-year terms in June, contrasting the revised 0.3% drop recorded in May (previously reported: -0.4% year-on-year). June’s increase largely reflected the strong rebound in sales of personal equipment goods.
On a distribution-based system, sales at department stores rebounded in June, following two consecutive months of decline. In addition, sales at small and large chain stores picked up steam compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, purchases at single retail stores contracted again in June, albeit at a softer pace than in May.
Annual average retail sales growth edged down from 1.1% in May to 0.9% in June, a five-month low.
