Sweden: CPIF falls to over one-year low in August
Consumer price inflation with a fixed interest (CPIF) dropped to 4.7% in August, markedly below July’s 6.4%. August’s figure represented the weakest inflation rate since February 2022, although it still was over two times higher than the Riksbank’s 2.0% target. Looking at the details of the release, the moderation chiefly reflected prices for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increasing at a weaker rate in August. This more than offset prices for transportation rising at a quicker pace.
Accordingly, the trend pointed down, with annual average inflation falling to 8.1% in August (July: 8.4%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation fell to 7.5% in August, from July’s 9.3%.
Lastly, consumer prices with a fixed interest rate dropped 0.09% over the previous month in August, a softer decrease than July’s 0.17% fall.
