Switzerland: Inflation remains stable in May
Inflation came in at 1.4% in May, matching April’s result and in line with the Central Bank’s target of below 2.0%. May’s result was mild compared to neighbors—Euro area inflation clocked 2.6% in May—thanks to Switzerland’s ingrained low inflation expectations and mild wage growth. Looking at subsectors, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages grew at a more subdued pace, offset stronger price pressures for housing and transport.
Annual average inflation was unchanged at April’s 1.5% in May.
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.27% over the previous month in May, largely in line with the 0.32% rise logged in April.
