Switzerland: Retail sales bounce back in January
Retail sales rose 5.1% year-on-year in calendar-adjusted terms in January (December: -0.4% c.a. yoy). January’s figure was partly due to a weaker contraction in food, beverages, and tobacco sales, as well as stronger growth in culture and recreation goods.
On a seasonally-adjusted monthly basis, retail sales fell at a softer pace of 0.4% in January (December: -2.0% mom). Meanwhile, the trend improved, with the annual average growth of retail sales coming in at 5.0%, up from December’s 4.6%.
