Taiwan: Inflation holds steady in October
Consumer prices increased 0.03% in October compared to the previous month, down from the 0.17% increase in September. The price increase in October was driven by higher garment prices due to the arrival of new autumn and winter clothes. On the other hand, prices for water, electricity and gas supply plummeted due to non-summer electricity rates going into effect.
Core consumer prices, which exclude prices for energy, fruits and vegetables, increased 0.48% in October from the previous month, contrasting the 0.11% decrease in September.
Inflation, meanwhile, was steady in October at September’s 0.4%. Annual average inflation slowed to 0.4% from 0.5%.
