Thailand: Inflation eases in January
Consumer prices fell 0.02% over the previous month in January, a markedly softer drop than December’s 0.65% decrease. The result came on the tails of higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, and housing and furnishing, both of which were just offset by cheaper prices for transportation and communication, energy, and vehicles and vehicle operations.
Inflation eased from 0.4% in December to 0.3% in January, this marked the lowest reading in 17 months and inflation consequently remained far below the Bank of Thailand’s 1.0%–4.0% target range. Lastly, core inflation, which excludes raw food and energy, was stable at November’s 0.7% in January.
