Thailand: Merchandise exports contract at sharper pace in December
Merchandise exports fell 12.9% annually in December, following Novembers 5.7% decrease. Meanwhile, merchandise imports shrank 10.0% in annual terms in December (November: +4.5% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 1.0 billion deficit in December (November 2022: USD 1.0 billion deficit; December 2021: USD 0.4 billion deficit). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 16.1 billion deficit in December, compared to the USD 15.4 billion deficit in November.
