Thailand: Merchandise exports contract at softer pace in January
Merchandise exports fell 4.5% annually in January, following December’s 12.9% decrease. Meanwhile, merchandise imports expanded 5.5% in annual terms in January (December: -10.0% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 4.7 billion deficit in January (January 2022: USD 2.4 billion deficit; December 2022: USD 1.0 billion deficit). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 18.4 billion deficit in January, compared to the USD 16.1 billion deficit in December.
