Thailand: Merchandise exports slide in May
Merchandise exports declined 4.6% in annual terms in May (April: -7.6% year-on-year). Meanwhile, merchandise imports decreased 3.4% over the same month last year in May (April: -7.3% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 1.8 billion deficit in May (April 2023: USD 1.5 billion deficit; May 2022: USD 1.6 billion deficit). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 19.2 billion deficit in May, compared to the USD 19.0 billion deficit in April.
