Thailand: Merchandise exports gain steam in July
Merchandise exports shot up 15.2% over the same month last year in July, on the heels of June’s 0.3% rise. The figure marked the fastest expansion since March 2022. Meanwhile, merchandise imports jumped 15.7% over the same month last year in July (June: -0.1% yoy), marking the strongest reading since September 2022.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 0.9 billion surplus in July (June 2024: USD 2.4 billion surplus; July 2023: USD 0.8 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend improved, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 18.8 billion surplus in July, compared to the USD 18.8 billion surplus in June.
