Ukraine: Growth eases but remains strong in Q3
GDP growth moderated to 4.2% year-on-year in the third quarter, according to preliminary data released by Ukraine’s Statistical Institute. The result was down from the second quarter’s over two-year high of 4.6% but still marked a healthy reading for the economy nonetheless.
Although a breakdown by components is not yet available, strong household consumption likely supported the reading. Wages continued to grow robustly in the quarter and consumer confidence hit a 12-year high in September. However, a weak industrial sector likely held back activity as industrial production contracted throughout Q3.
Detailed national accounts data is scheduled to be released in December.
