Uruguay: Manufacturing production drops at sharpest pace since November 2022 in September
Manufacturing output slid 4.4% year on year in September (August: +2.1% yoy). The figure marked the worst reading since November 2022. However, the contraction was largely due to programmed maintenance work at an oil refinery plant from early September. The textile sector also fell sharply. In contrast, higher paper products output boosted the overall reading, amid the start-up of a second cellulose plant in June.
Meanwhile, the trend pointed down, with the annual average variation of manufacturing production coming in at a two-year low of minus 0.5%, contrasting August’s plus 0.1%.
