Vietnam: Inflation rises in July
Inflation increased to 4.4% in July, up from June’s 4.3%, inching up closer to the ceiling of the government’s 4.0–4.5% target range. The uptick was largely due to stronger price pressures for transportation. In contrast, prices for food increased at a softer pace in July, and housing and utilities prices were largely unchanged.
Accordingly, annual average inflation ticked up to 3.8% in July (June: 3.6%).
Finally, consumer prices increased 0.48% over the previous month in July, picking up from the 0.17% increase seen in June. July’s uptick was the sharpest increase in prices since February.
