Vietnam: Merchandise exports increase in March
Merchandise exports jumped 14.5% year-on-year in March, on the heels of February’s 5.2% fall. Meanwhile, merchandise imports increased 9.7% in annual terms in March (February: +0.2% yoy). Exports rose by double digits across a host of subsectors, including textiles, electronics and plastics.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 2.9 billion surplus in March (February 2024: USD 1.4 billion surplus; March 2023: USD 1.4 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed up, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 30.7 billion surplus in March, compared to the USD 29.2 billion surplus in February.
