Vietnam: Merchandise exports rise at a slower pace in April
Merchandise exports rose 11.0% in annual terms in April (March: +14.5% year-on-year). Meanwhile, merchandise imports soared 20.0% on an annual basis in April (March: +9.7% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 0.7 billion surplus in April (March 2024: USD 2.9 billion surplus; April 2023: USD 2.7 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend deteriorated, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 28.8 billion surplus in April, compared to the USD 30.7 billion surplus in March.
