Vietnam: Merchandise exports growth increases in May
Merchandise exports soared 17.0% annually in May, following April’s 11.0% upturn. Meanwhile, merchandise imports climbed 29.9% over the same month last year in May (April: +20.0% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 1.0 billion shortfall in May (April 2024: USD 0.7 billion surplus; May 2023: USD 2.0 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend deteriorated, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 26.0 billion surplus in May, compared to the USD 29.0 billion surplus in April.
