Annual GDP growth decelerated to 3.2% in Q1 2024 (Q4 2023: +3.7% yoy). The moderation was due to slowdowns in exports, fixed investment, and private consumption, with the latter weighed on by high inflation. Conversely, public spending was supportive of growth, as it accelerated from Q4 and expanded over 11% annually in Q1. Turning to Q2 and Q3, economic data was largely bullish. Inflation continued to trend down in April–August, likely giving some breathing room to household budgets and supporting private consumption in turn. Meanwhile, the downturn in the oil sector may have bottomed out: After contracting by nearly 19% year on year in December 2023, crude production fell at gradually milder paces through June. That said, the declines remained significant, likely hurting exports and public coffers. In addition, devastating floods in September could have dented growth.
