GDP rose by 3.9% year on year in Q2 (Q1: +3.4 yoy) on an over 30% surge in investment and faster public spending growth. Less positively, private consumption lost steam, and net exports dragged on momentum due to a sharp rebound in imports. Shifting to Q3, early data suggests softer GDP growth. Economic activity rose 3.4% in July (Q2: +5.0% yoy) as slower increases in agricultural, construction and retail sector output outweighed an improvement in manufacturing. That said, the decline in goods exports slowed, hinting at fading headwinds to the external sector. In politics, President Castro announced in late August that Honduras would stop extraditions to the U.S., effective from May 2025; the mechanism had been a cornerstone of the fight against organized crime, and its removal has triggered political backlash and will undermine the rule of law.
