Annual GDP growth declined in Q2 from Q1 due to slowdowns in private spending and exports and a contraction in government consumption. Turning to Q3, available data indicates that momentum strengthened. Households benefitted from a rebound in remittance inflows in July–August and lower inflation during the quarter. Additionally, merchandise exports growth accelerated in Q3 from Q2. Less positively, tourist arrivals shrank in July–August. In other news, in October, the government announced that it would lift the over one-year long ban on Serbian imports. The move bodes well for trade and European integration and should help ease tensions with Serbia. Meanwhile, Fitch Ratings affirmed Kosovo’s ‘BB-’ rating, citing healthy fiscal prospects but highlighting elevated tensions with Serbia and economic informality.
